While working at Microsoft’s Rare studio, I contributed to the evolution of the Xbox 360 from a games console into a connected media centre for the home.
If you used the second major iteration of the Xbox 360 dashboard, you may remember its distinctive floor-based cover-flow system. This approach grew from some of my early conceptual designs and became a defining part of the updated experience. I contributed a range of UI concepts and designs throughout its development.
The dashboard was groundbreaking at the time, bringing together games, entertainment, personalisation and online connectivity in a way that had not previously been seen on a home console.
I also helped conceptualise and realise Xbox Avatars, which became an integral and commercially successful part of the platform. Together, the dashboard and Avatars helped make the Xbox 360 experience feel more personal, accessible and connected.
