There’s a lot to be said for working with the best in the industry. It definitely pushes you to raise your game.
This was a branding project at Territory Studio for a major movie franchise, supporting the marketing campaign for a new game release through animated branding elements. I worked alongside the art director to create five visual directions over a few days, drawing on familiar cues from the original films, the game’s artwork and the wider tone of the franchise.
The top concept was inspired by the game’s box art, and probably my favourite. I liked the atmosphere at the time, though in hindsight setting the brand on fire might have been a bit much. There was also a version with enemy ships flying past the camera, which I think would have looked great.
The other two directions were based on classic star charts from the original films. I’ve always liked their clean, structured look. The gold version was probably closest to the final direction and, if I remember right, it sat well alongside the game’s UI.
A fun, fast-paced project, all quickly mocked up in Illustrator and Photoshop.
