Viva Piñata was developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios. The first game in the series took the form of a sweet-filled piñata breeding and gardening simulation. Beneath its colourful, child friendly surface, it carried a mischievous edge, encouraging players to “break” their creations and explore some questionable breeding ethics.
I created and managed various promotional materials for the title, including flyers and exhibition panels. For the sequel I developed a set of Pokémon style collectible cards that were given to journalists as part of the promotional campaign. The cards could be scanned with Kinect to bring characters into the game, an idea that anticipated the physical-digital crossover trend later made popular by Skylanders.
