While working at Rare, I collaborated with studio veteran Leigh Loveday to redesign the company’s website.
The existing site was visually dated but well managed, with regular updates and a strong relationship with Rare’s community. Rather than lose what already worked, I built on that foundation while introducing a more expressive visual direction.
The design played with solid, physical forms that made the site feel almost like a piece of gaming hardware. This felt particularly appropriate given Rare’s history and gave the experience a distinctive character beyond that of a conventional website.
I particularly liked the interactive elements, including the video player, MP3 player and animated features created in Flash. Together, they better reflected Rare’s creativity and humour. Even now, it remains one of those early web projects whose visual ideas still hold up.
