Sing Party was a unique project for the often-overlooked Wii U, developed by Activision in close collaboration with Nintendo. At its core, it’s a singing and party game aimed at younger, family-oriented players, designed around the Wii U’s unusual controller.
I created the game’s bold, exaggerated pop music aesthetic, drawing inspiration from shows like Top of the Pops, MTV idents, and pop-art visuals. I was also instrumental in developing the UI, which made innovative use of the Wii U GamePad to display lyrics, build playlists on the fly, and interact dynamically with the TV screen.
One feature I was particularly proud of was the karaoke mode UI, which introduced glowing performance feedback and a lyric pitch guide. These elements have since become more common in music games.
While Sing Party wasn’t a huge commercial hit, it was a polished, energetic sing-along experience that still holds up today (especially after a few drinks). Reviews often highlighted the interface and presentation, which were my primary responsibilities on the project.
