Robot, Cat, or Both? – A Pixel Art Experiment
Like many budding artists of my generation, I became obsessed with drawing on computers, particularly pixel art. For me, it began with the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and continued with more advanced machines such as the Atari ST and Amiga. That eventually led me into the creative industries and a career making games.
I still dabble in pixel art whenever I have some downtime. This character is obviously influenced by Sonic and other 1990s mascots. I’ve always found static images and backgrounds relatively easy to create. Hand-drawn pixel animation, however, is probably the most challenging and rewarding part for me. The real challenge is bringing something to life convincingly and giving it the movement and weight you would expect.
With this character, I couldn’t decide whether it should be a robot, a cat or a robot cat! But does it really matter?
